Fascinating stuff to be certain! I actually crossed over to what feels like the dark side…I downloaded the ChatGPT app. Many of my coworkers are using it so I thought I’d kick the tires a little bit and try it out. It doesn’t have to be a long term commitment…the lies we tell ourselves 😂😆🤣
Your comments inspired me to ask ChatGPT to write some jokes about religion and blasphemy. Not too shabby for an LLM:
1. "A fundamentalist screamed, ‘You’re mocking God!’ I said, ‘No, I’m mocking you. God’s too busy ghosting starving children while you’re out here sweating through a polyester suit trying to save my soul with a pamphlet that looks like it was made on Windows 95."
2. "They told me blasphemy is a sin. I said, ‘So is pride, but you seem awfully smug holding that sign like you co-wrote the Bible. What chapter was ‘Self-Righteous Screeching’ in again?'"
3. "You know who never complains about blasphemy? God. You know who always complains? People who think they speak for Him. As if the Alpha and Omega is up there saying, ‘Thanks, Steve, I needed your help managing my brand today.’"
4. "You ever notice how the people who scream the loudest about blasphemy are the ones who think God needs a bouncer? Like He’s running a nightclub in the sky and if you say the wrong thing, boom — you’re on the eternal no-fly list. If your deity can create galaxies but crumbles at a cartoon, maybe He’s not ‘the Merciful,’ maybe He’s just moody!"
5. "Evangelicals and hardline Islamists both lose their minds if you so much as question their sacred bedtime stories. ‘How dare you insult the Prophet!’ Bro, if the Prophet’s in paradise, I’m sure he’s not sitting around rage-refreshing Twitter looking for cartoon insults to smite."
I started by asking for 90s edgelord, and then it asked if I wanted it darker or more sarcastic, so I said yes. Then, it asked if I wanted to lean more heavily into a specific voice, so I asked for George Carlin. I can share the exact wording if you're curious.
Islam is no better or worse than any other man-made rule based Religion - they’re all pretty much super dogmatic but historical context is important in this case I think. Perfectly sane Apache helicopter crews in the US military are probably way more murderous than individual, radicalised young Muslims. The destruction, death and chaos foisted by Western forces on Muslim lands in recent decades probably go a long way to bringing us to where making drawings of Allah or Mohammed is not a good idea for the artist.
Yes, it is fun finding the edges of where freedom of speech lives and finding other examples of human foibles too.
What if the Spanish inquisition had trained AI back in the day ?
There probably would’ve been a few no no’s too I reckon. The Santas Hermandades Viejas would’ve been quite keen to remove the heads of any unrepentant heretics no doubt.

Western media is hardwired with a very simple equation -
Christianity = good
Islam = other.
While it thinks Israel is a very good idea and may defend itself in any way it sees fit, including genocide, ethnic cleansing and ignoring humanitarian law.

Funny old world isn’t it?

It certainly is a funny old world! Life has its share of ironies, unexpected twists, and curious patterns that can make you step back and smile at the absurdity of it all.
Thank you for reading, Baz, and for sharing your thoughts.

It has its problems but it also has its place. I've found using it fascinating. Enjoy!
LLMs don’t necessarily provide ‘facts’, also they can hallucinate (make up stuff) and I’ve even documented responses that have actually been lies.
Not great at writing jokes either😉
Once they start writing good jokes we should seriously consider their twilight!

How about your prompt engineering, did you ask for a specific style?

Actually I ended up going the George Carlin route too, it was pretty good:
You ever notice how religion’s the only business where the customer’s always wrong, and the product is invisible?
You walk into a store and say, “Hey, I don’t see anything.” They say, “Exactly! Now give us 10% of your income and don’t ask questions.”
That’s not salvation, that’s a pyramid scheme with incense.
Yikes!!!😳
Was that an AI generated ‘yikes’?
😁😄
A Pakistani man found the image of prophet Muhammad in his tub of margarine.
He showed it to his Chinese neighbour who said: "I cannot believe it's not Buddha"
Good one!
